Americans and Soccer?

Yesterday, I touched on the question of why it is so hard for Americans to enjoy Soccer the way it is enjoyed around the world. Well, coincidentally there was an excellent article in the New York Times yesterday that was published with impeccable timing. The article propounds one theory, and in my opinion, it hits the nail right on the head. The Hands Theory:

The Hands Theory is often invoked by Americans who are spooked by soccer and insist the sport will never get anywhere in the United States because we Yanks only understand games that involve the use of hands.

Sounds about right, eh? Anyway, the rest of the article is excellent. Check it out.

Congrats to the US team's 1-1 draw against England.

Hi there --

I would have send you a private message but the blog would not allow it.

Thought you would find this web series interesting -- in the latest episode the star, an loud-mouthed Italian grandma, goes to Flushing.
